A delegation from Pakistan which was to attend the Vibrant Gujarat Summit has left without attending the Summit due to the recent tension along the Line of Control.
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is known for his tough stand against Pakistan. Media reports indicate that the presence of the delegation at the Summit given the current crisis at the border would have caused embarrassment for the Gujarat government. Hence the delegation was asked to leave on Friday.
According to the PTI the eleven-member delegation from Karachi could not participate in the three-day event held in Gandhinagar as they were issued visas only for Ahmedabad.
Principal Secretary (Home) S K Nanda told PTI "The visas issued to the delegation were only for Ahmedabad while some members had visas for Surat and Vapi also. The delegation could not attend the Vibrant Gujarat Summit which was held in Gandhinagar (about 30-km from Ahmedabad)."
Pakistani citizens are issued visas city-wise or to a certain destination and not for the entire country.
The Gujarat government had invited some members of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry for the event. They attended some industry symposiums in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
It was not immediately known as to who was responsible for the goof-up according to the PTI.
