Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who is tipped to be a strong contender to emerge as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s prime ministerial candidate for 2014 Lok Sabha polls, is all set to address students at the Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) here on Wednesday.

The senior BJP leader will speak at the ´Shri Ram Memorial Oration´ at SRCC´s fifth Business Conclave 2013.

He is likely to address students on issues of business and social development, reports said.

According to reports, the students of the college conducted an internal poll and selected Modi as the speaker at the event.

"A majority of students in one of the most sought-after colleges in Delhi voted for Modi to be the speaker at the conclave this year with Ratan Tata coming a close second," India Today reported.

"We had an internal poll to make a list of all the political and business leaders we would like to hear at the conclave this year. Students from both courses -BCom (honours) and BA (honours) Economics -in the college participated and Modi got the highest number of votes," an organizer of the conclave told India Today.

"It was an internal matter. Ratan Tata got the second highest votes though he expressed his regret for not being able to make it to the college as he was supposed to be travelling," he said.

"He is going to speak about successful business models that helped transform Gujarat. The topic of his discourse is ´Emerging Business Models in the Global Scenario´. This is the first time we have introduced this session. We´ve mostly had business leaders to speak at the conclave in last four editions," he said.

The Gujarat Chief Minister is expected to make his address at around 4 pm on Wednesday.

According to reports, Left wing organisations are likely to protest against his visit outside the college.

SRCC is a constituent college of the University of Delhi in the national capital New Delhi.

Modi earlier in the day met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here and called the visit a courtesy call.

He met the PM for the first time since he won the election and formed the government in Gujarat as the state´s Chief Minister.

Modi had earlier gained praises from Indian industry titans for his business friendly administration in Gujarat.

Reliance ADAG Chairman Anil Ambani heaped generous praise on the Chief Minister while speaking Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2013 last month and compared him to the likes of Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel and father Dhirubhai Ambani.

"Narendra Bhai has been described in different ways. My personal favourite comes from what his name literally means in Sanskrit - a conjunction of Nara and Indra. Nara means man and Indra means King or leader. Narendra bhai is the lord of men and a king among kings," Ambani said.

His brother and Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani announced that his company, India's largest listed firm, had committed more than Rs 1 lakh crores in investments over the next three years.

"In Narendra Bhai, we have a leader with a grand vision. I am proud to say that RIL is a Gujarati, Indian and a global company. We began from Gujarat and we come back here again and again to invest," Ambani said.

Godrej Group chairman Adi Godrej said, "Gujarat has made a remarkable progress. We see almost every state embarking on an investors´ summit now - a pro-active approach established with a walk the talk approach of the government here."

ICICI Bank Managing Director Chanda Kochhar said, "Gujarat welcomes growth, progress and investment. Gujarat is not just the fastest growing state in the country but by that token actually it becomes one of the fastest growing regions in the world."
