Some time back AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal beat BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in an online poll to select The 100 Most Influential People in the World.
For the uninitiated, Justin Bieber and Katy Perry are locked in a battle for the most popular pop star in the world when it comes to such polls. For quite some time, Bieber was the Twitter leader, but Katy narrowly beat him to become the first to get 50 million Twitter followers.
The same thing happened in this year's Time poll and both Bieber and Perry took an early lead. But of course both Kejriwal and Modi fans had other ideas.
They started voting in large numbers and very soon the two edged out the reigning pop stars. And for anyone following the percentage of votes, it was a seesaw battle resembling a T20 match.
One unique thing about the Time polls is that you can cast both a Yes vote and a No vote. So if you don't like someone then you can still vote for him, albeit with a no. At the end of the poll after Kejriwal emerged as the clear winner.
That's because even though Modi got more overall votes, Kejriwal got more positive ones. In fact in the end, Kejriwal had to most Yes votes and Modi had the most No votes in the entire poll. Now doesn't this resemble the Indian mainstream media, civil society and intelligentsia where Kejriwal is the most loved and Modi the most hated!
In terms of percentage of No Votes clocked for each personality, Rahul Gandhi had the highest No percentage even ahead of the other "most hated" Bieber. Pappu is a disaster wherever he goes!
