Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni added one more feather to his cap as he was conferred honorary Lieutenant Colonel title in the Territorial Army on Tuesday.
Army General VK Singh conferred the honorary positions to Dhoni and Olympic gold medal winner Abhinav Bindra.
On Sept 13, President Pratibha Patil approved granting of honorary commissions to the sports stars.
Dhoni said he would encourage ´youths´ to join ´army´.
Under Dhoni´s captaincy India has won World Cup in 2011 and T20 World championship in 2007.Besides India also reached the number one ranking in test cricket under his captaincy. He is considered to be one of the flamboyant batsman and wicket-keeper of India.
Shooter Abhinav Bindra had made Indians proud by bagging the only individual gold medal in Olympic games in 2008.
Earlier, cricketers like Kapil Dev and Sachin Tendulkar were conferred special honorary ranks in the armed forces.
