Mumbai Diary: After the blasts, it's Sena vs SRK once more

Political war over blasts

The triple strike on Terror Wednesday shook Mumbai from its slumber with a dreadful reminder that Terror is still on its doorstep. The mere ease by which terror mongers sneak in and slip out of the city points to a clear lapse in security measures.

However, the blasts have given political parties another opportunity to get into some dirty mudslinging. The first case is between the ruling party Congress and its bed fellow NCP.

Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan threw the first punch by admitting on national television that handing over the Home department to the NCP was a mistake. The partners didn't take to this comment too kindly and threw some muck back at the CM.

Predictably, the very next day, the CM withdrew his comment stating the expected response - that he was misquoted.

The Shiv Sena on the other hand used the blasts as an excuse to settle scores with its 'old friend' Shah Rukh Khan. Not many will forget how the King Khan had managed to upset the Sena by his comments on Pakistan cricketers.

The party had staged violent protests and tried to stall the release of his film My Name Is Khan. So this time the Sena got offended over SRK throwing a party for some friends.

The Sena considered this an insensitive gesture and responded the way it knows best. Get out on the street and trash some public property.

While victims of the blast are grappling for medication and means to earn a living, the Sena is busy getting offended by a movie star hosting a private party.

No water cuts in Mumbai!

After a slow and sketchy start, the monsoon decided to open its arms and embrace Mumbai over the weekend. In the past 72 hours, the rain gods left their shower running, and the BMC is thrilled to bits.

And the reason is that for the first time in four years, Mumbai will not have a water cut.

The norm in the past few years has been to make mental notes of the water cut days and the percentage too. However, this year, the five lakes that are the source of water to the city are nice and full. Now, that's some reason to rejoice.

Cars galore, no spots to park

In a city of over two crore people, a good 200,000 cars criss cross the city on a daily basis.

And when you have a vehicle, you would obviously expect a parking slot too. But there isnt one for you.

That's just the beginning of the bad news if you are a car owner.

The BMC has only around 20,000 parking slots officially. And the number of cars are way more than that. In fact,  if you do some simple math, 69 cars are vying for each parking slot available with the BMC. Now, unless the BMC builds skyscrapers for parking, you are not going to find a space for your hot wheels anytime soon.

MCA elections: Politics wins over Cricket

Former CM Vilasrao Deshmukh steamrolled former star batsman Dilip Vengsarkar in the Mumbai Cricker Association presidential elections.

Vengsarkar was fighting a pretty lop-sided contest from the start. No matter how good a batsman he may have been, no matter how many contests he may have won, no matter how many centuries he may have scored, winning an election against a seasoned campaigner is just not a cricketer's cup of tea.

The Colonel, as Vengsarkar is fondly known, had to concede this battle to a far more powerful opponent.

PS: The power in the opponent came from a certian Pawar-ful man that goes by the name of Sharad Pawar.
