Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore and coastal Gujarat are among the places put on alert by the Indian Navy.

This is not a high alert, but a normal alert which has been on since last year. But the extra precaution is in respect of the approaching first anniversary of the 26/11 attack in Mumbai, an intelligence source told a TV channel.

City police and port authorities have been asked to tighten security in these areas.

Meanwhile, West Bengal Inspector General (IG) of Police (Law and Order) Surajit Kar Purakayastha said the state has not received any special alert.

"26/11 is still far away. We are extra cautious as we continue to receive many alerts. But there is no specific alarm," he said.
