Chennai: With his reported comments about DMK on the Kudankulam nuclear plant issue rubbing it the wrong way, Union Minister V Narayanasamy today sought to assuage the irked feelings of party chief M Karunanidhi, saying that ties between Congress and its ally are 'stronger'.

Disputing Narayanasamy's reported comments to a Tamil weekly that AIADMK consistently supported the project but the DMK had changed, Karunanidhi said yesterday his party was not against the project and it always supported industrial growth in a scientific manner.

"We are not against developmental projects like Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant. We are in favour of industrial growth in a scientific manner", the DMK chief had said.

In a statement, Narayanasamy said his comments had been published in such a manner so as to create a rift between Congress and DMK. "What I said was that DMK is extending full support to the project and that the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister is cooperating with the project," he said.

Narayanasamy said he had emphasised on the strong ties between the two parties which were working closely both in Parliament and outside. "I have great respect for Karunanidhi", he said.
