National Grass Court Tennis: Top seed Myneni in final

Kolkata, Feb 10 (IANS) Men's top seed Rakesh Myneni and women's fourth seed Vaishnavi Peddi Reddy sailed into the finals of Indian Jute National Grass Court Tennis Championships here Friday.

Myneni of Andra Pradesh secured a place in the final, defeating fourth seed Nitten Kirrtane 6-2, 6-4. Myneni broke him in the very first game of the match followed by third in the first set. In the second set, Myneni got a crucial break point at the seventh game when the scores were leveled 3-3.

Myneni will meet second seed Suresh Krishna also from Andra Pradesh in the final. Krishna won his match 6-2, 1-0 when third seed Vignesh Pernamullar conceded the match after complaining of back pain.

Second seed Ankita Raina of Gujarat lost in straight sets to Vaishnavi 6-3, 6-1. She broke Raina in the first, fifth, seventh and ninth game of the first set, followed by second, fourth and sixth game in the second.

Vaishnavi will be facing Rushmi Chakravarthi in the final.

Third seed Rushmi continued her good run in the famous greens of South Club by thumping 17-year-old local Amrita Mukherjee in 6-0,6-4.

Both the finals will be played Saturday.
