Mumbai/New Delhi: Senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and Union minister Praful Patil on Tuesday dismissed reports on Congress-NCP deadlock in Maharashtra and said the party will be part of the state government.
"The NCP will be part of the Maharashtra government," the Civil Aviation minister told reporters in Delhi on Tuesday evening.
Governor fails to break Congress-NCP deadlock
"We have a coalition of over 10 years with the Congress and I don't foresee any major issues outstanding to be resolved between the two parties.
"The NCP wants to stick to the 1999 power-sharing formula, where the Congress has the Chief Ministership and we have the Deputy Chief Ministership in Maharashtra," Patil said.
Patil's statement comes in stark contrast with another senior NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal.
For NCP and Congress, portfolio allocation will be as difficult as seat sharing
Speaking to reporters in Mumbai Tuesday morning, Bhujbal said: "Congress and NCP have yet not reached any consensus on power-sharing in Maharashtra. Until then, we give support the Congress government from outside."
The Congress, along with its ally NCP, won 144 seats in the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly.
