The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), visited Agra recently to review crime cases against children in the city of Taj.
The NCPCR on Wednesday said during a two-day visit to Agra (Sept 6-7), it has stumbled upon various irregularities at the Children's Home (Sishu Sadan) and Observation Home for Boys in Agra.
The visit was necessitated following several cases of crime against children reported to the Commission in the past few months in the city.
The Commission had visited the district to inquire into the deaths of children in the Shishu Sadan of Agra.
"The children in the Homes were suffering from severe malnutrition. They are not provided with adequate food and the staffs in the Homes are also not adequately motivated,'' said Dr. Yogesh Dube, Member, NCPCR, who led the three-member delegation.
"The situation there (in the Homes) needs to be improved urgently. The educational rights of the children needs to be protected and they must be mainstreamed at the earliest,'' he said.
In the districts, cases of malnutrition among children are rampant, said the NCPCR.
The Commission said it has asked the administration to take immediate steps to provide nutrition facilities to the children.
It has also asked to release the juveniles who have been apprehended for petty crimes.
The Commission will request Uttar Pradesh State Legal Authority to provide legal aid to the juvenile who are in Observation homes.
Dube constituted a task force to rescue a minor, who was trafficked from Darjeeling.
The task force successfully rescued the girl within hours, said the NCPCR.
The Commission was happy with the efforts undertaken by the district administration in rescuing a girl from Darjeeling whose parents had taken up the matter with the Commission.
On Dube´s directions, the district administration is contemplating to form a separate cell for the rape victims.
The district administration has also consented to provide land for construction of a children's Home in the district on the direction of the NCPCR member.
Dube also directed to constitute a task force to make the world famous tourist area child labour free and develop an action plan on the proper implementation of the Right to Education in the district.
