According to Border Security Force (BSF), nearly 250 militants were waiting to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir across the border.

Rajeev Krishna, Inspector General (IG) of BSF, said on Thursday that next three months would be very challenging to combat infiltration in the valley.

"Nearly 45 to 60 militants are waiting at IB (international border) to infiltrate. This number is more at LoC (Line of Control), where nearly 175 to 225 militants are waiting," said Krishna in Jammu.

The BSF said it had stepped up its vigil along the LoC to thwart infiltration from the Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

"Accordingly we have fine-tuned our strategies. We have priorities our resources. We have taken the resources from other frontiers, where it is required. We have reinforced our security measures," said Krishna.

The officer said that more infiltration attempts were made in 2012, as compared to 2011.

"Broadly we can conclude that compared to last year more infiltration attempts were made in 2012. A tunnel was detected. It was a very important detection. It was a major set back to the anti-national elements," he added.

Army had discovered a 400-meter long tunnel, running between India and Pakistan, along the International Border in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir in July this year.

The tunnel at a depth of 25-feet had air supply through a two-inch pipe. (ANI)
