New anti-clotting pill better at cutting stroke risk than old treatments

A new clot-busting pill called rivaroxaban has been found to be much better at preventing strokes while having less potentially fatal side effects, as compared to present-day treatments.
Commonly used anti-clotting agent warfarin is notoriously difficult to control and leaves patients at risk of bleeding on the brain.
Now scientists have shown that for patients at risk because of an irregular heartbeat, rivaroxaban is better at preventing clot-related strokes. At the same time, it minimises the risk of causing a bleeding stroke, the Daily Express reported.
The rate of stroke is 2.2 per 100 people on warfarin but only 1.7 per 100 people for those on rivaroxaban.
The research was presented at the American Stroke Association's International Stroke Conference. (ANI)
