In its 800-page interim report, the NHRC ruled out rape in Bhatta Parsaul, contrary to National Commission for Women (NCW) that said women were paraded naked and raped in the Uttar Pradesh village.
However, the Commission accused Uttar Pradesh Police for allegedly torturing the villagers and threatening if they report to authorities.

The Commission will meet over preparing the final report later this week.

The final report will be submitted to the Uttar Pradesh government.

There was more relief for the Mayawati government as the NHRC said a 14-year-old girl, who was found hanging inside a police compound at Lakhimpur Kheri district on June 12, was not raped.

On May 25, a seven-member team of NHRC visited Bhatta Parsual and accused Uttar Pradesh Police for encouraging Mayawati government's atrocities in the village

Earlier, the NCW said women were molested and stripped in Bhatta Parsual village and a CBI probe should be ordered into the atrocities.

The farmers of Bhatta Parsual were agitating against land acquisition by the UP government for an expressway, demanding higher compensation.
