The Pakistan Government on Tuesday filed a review petition against the Supreme Court's order of Sept 18 pertaining to the contempt of court case against the prime minister in the NRO implementation case.
According to a report appearing in Dawn News, the review petition was submitted by the Deputy Attorney General Dil Mohammad Ali Zai.
The petition stated that the four measures proposed by the court to write the letter to Swiss authorities in the court's decision of September 18 were against the Para 178 of an earlier decision made in the NRO implementation case.
The petition added that the implementation bench cannot overturn the decision of the original bench. It asserted that the letter was to be written by the government and not the apex court.
The government wished to follow the directives stated in the Para 178 and had prepared a draft of the letter in accordance to it.
The petition stated that the court's directive of Sept 18 was an error in judgment on the court's part. Therefore, the petition requested the court to overturn the court's earlier decision of Sept 18.
The four steps the SC planned to monitor were: written authorisation by the prime minister regarding implementation of the NRO verdict; drafting of the relevant communication; dispatch of such communication to and receipt of the same by the Swiss and other authorities; and final confirmation of such receipt of the relevant communication by the concerned authorities abroad.
Earlier, the apex court had given the government a deadline of Sept 25 to complete the draft of the letter to Swiss authorities. (ANI)
