Siliguri: The inauguration of a NSG hub near Kolkata tomorrow has been postponed in view of the earthquake in Sikkim, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said today.
"The NSG hub inauguration has been postponed due to the natural calamity," Banerjee, who was in north Bengal to oversee rescue and relief operations after Sunday's devastating earthquake, told PTI.
The inauguration by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram with the West Bengal Chief Minister as the chief guest would be held at a later date, she said.
The 20-acre hub at Madhyamgram in North 24 Parganas district, near Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, houses 241 crack commandos for anti-terror and counter-hijack operations.
The infrastructure facilities at the hub now have been made permanent and will have full facilities for commandos stationed there for special operations.
