President Barack Obama's half-brother Malik Obama has lost bid to be a governor in Kenya.

Malik Obama lost the gubernatorial election, finishing a distant third in the race to run Siaya County, an area in western Kenya, local media reported.

According to the New York Daily News, Malik had credited his half-brother Barack with inspiring him to run.

In January Malik had told an international news agency that if his brother is doing great things for people in the United States, why can't he do great things for Kenyans here?

The race between winner Cornel Rasanga and runner-up William Oduol was decided by less than 10,000 votes, but Obama, who ran as an independent candidate, never made a strong showing. (ANI)
