US President Barack Obama has poked fun at himself and the Washington press corps at the Gridiron Club dinner, including a long riff on Bob Woodward, who recently suggested White House aide Gene Sperling had threatened him in an email.
Taking a dig at Woodward, the president it "the whole brouhaha had him a little surprised", as no one thought Gene, or "anybody named Gene" could be so intimidating, reports Politico.
He also said some people have said that he is ignoring the Washington press corps - which is "right". He said he was wrong and has apologized in a video that could be viewed exclusively at whitehouse.gov.
Obama also made light of the press corps' grumbles about acess and transparency.
He further joked, saying that after a very public mix-up last week, his communications team has provided him with an easy way to distinguish between "Star Trek" and "Star Wars", adding that Spock is what Maureen Dowd calls him, and Darth Vader is what John Boehner calls him.
Obama, however, ended on a serious note, praising reporters for maintaining a commitment to seriousness and integrity. He said he is grateful for all the journalists who do the toughest of jobs with integrity, insight, dedication and a sense of purpose. (ANI)
