Mohali: Olympic medal winning boxer Vijender Singh and fellow boxer Ram Singh are likely to be questioned by Punjab police in connection with a 26kg heroin haul from a flat in Zirakpur, Mohali.

The value of the drug bust is estimated at Rs 130 crore, and the Punjab police may have just uncovered a major international drug peddling racket.

Their names figured when Canada-based Indian Anup Singh Kahlon and his associate Kulwinder Singh, who were arrested in connection with the drug bust on March 3, named the boxers and said they had supplied them with drugs.

The police also said that on the day of the drug bust, Vijender Singh's wife's car was found parked outside the apartment. Police said that 10kg of heroin had been found inside a car but it is unclear if the car mentioned belongs to the boxer's wife.

However, according to television channels reports, the boxer denied any links with Anup Singh. "I have nothing to do with these people. I do not know how my name has come up in this matter. I was in Mumbai for some work and had left my car at NIS Patiala. Nothing was found in my car," he added.

Upon further investigation, it was learnt that the main king pin, Anup Singh smuggles drugs to various countries in Europe and North America. Anup Singh is a truck driver in Canada and is part of a drug network in Punjab.

Meanwhile, Man Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police, overseeing the investigation, says that they are treading slowly and have no reason to believe the drug-traffickers, media reports quoted him as saying.

However, the two sportspersons will be called in for questioning as a summons is imminent.
