Outlook magazine is all set to respond to Time magazine’s assessment of the Indian PM with an assessment of its own on President Obama. They have dubbed the American President - what else? - An underachiever.
The magazine has put up an advance preview of its upcoming cover on its website. The cover is a mirror of last week's Time cover, which had called Dr. Manmohan Singh an 'under-achiever'.
The cover features the official White House portrait of Barack Obama and calls into question the rhetoric that he had used to get elected four years ago - hope and change.
The magazine covers hints at the fact that the promises remain unfulfilled even as Obama faces an election in December.
Even the blurb is a mirror of the one in Time.
Time had noted that - "India needs a reboot, is Prime Minister Manmohan Singh up to the job?" and Outlook asks the question right back with - "America needed a reboot - he promised hope and change."
The Time cover is not the only backdrop to the story. Last week Obama had given a strongly worded statement where he asked India to ensure essential 'reforms' were passed.
This was widely seen as a demand to open Indian markets to foreign direct investment, a move that would greatly benefit American companies like Wal-Mart.
