Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Pawan Kumar Bansal on Saturday said that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) nominee for the president's post, Pranab Mukherjee will emerge victorious as all the major political parties are backing him.
Interacting with mediapersons here, Bansal said, "Major parties including the Samajwadi Party (SP), the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) have extended support, which is normally not with the Congress, and support will come from other quarters and it will be very comfortable victory."
Bansal added the party would also request its coalition partner, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee to support Mukherjee's candidature for the post of the president.
"We can only appeal to her with the hope that she should support now. I mean before the declaration of the candidates, one has the right to have your own view or even charter your own course for any particular matter, but after the results and after the declaration of Pranab Mukherjee as the official candidate from the UPA, we would request her to support him," Bansal said.
