Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Kamran Michael has said that Interior Minister Rehman Malik has hurt the sentiments of the Christian community by comparing its spiritual leader, the Pope, with Dr Tahirul Qadri, adding that the minister should immediately tender an apology.

Reacting to the statement of Malik, Michael said that the Christian community "strongly" protests the minister's remarks, reports the Daily Times.

Michael said the Pope is not only the spiritual leader of Pakistani Christians but also one of the most respected personalities at the international level.

He said that Malik is issuing "irresponsible statements only for the sake of opposition to serve his narrow ends".

Michael further said that if Malik does not apologise to the Christians, he would lodge a protest with the president and before the Senate.

He said Malik should refrain from creating such a situation which could undermine the efforts for the promotion of religious harmony and brotherhood. He added that respect for the religious and spiritual personalities of other faiths and beliefs is the basic principle of the teachings of all religions. (ANI)
