Islamabad: Pakistan Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has asked the United Kingdom to provide latest military hardware to Pakistan.

Ashraf met his British counterpart David Cameron at the latter's official residence, and discussed matters of bilateral interest, Indo-Pakistan relations, and the aftermath in Afghanistan following the withdrawal of NATO troops, reports the Daily Times.

Pakistan Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar was also present in the meeting.

Ashraf appreciated Britain's role in helping Pakistan promote education and healthcare and also for helping the country access European markets.

Ashraf reiterated that Pakistan desires a peaceful and stable Afghanistan. He said Pakistan is working closely with the Afghan High Peace Council so that all stakeholders are on board and the steps taken are beneficial and reinforcing.

He also stressed the need to build up the Afghan security forces during the transition period so that they can take up responsibilities.

Ashraf thanked Cameron for his country's support on the issue of securing GSP plus status for Pakistan from the EU countries.

Cameron said Pakistan has made huge sacrifices in the war against terror, and added that his country would continue to stand by Pakistan to carry on the Enhanced Strategic Dialogue.

Commenting on improving ties between India and Pakistan, the British prime minister observed that "there was need to open market to harvest economic bonuses".

Cameron, while hailing the recently concluded trilateral meeting, said that Pakistan's role was constructive and he would be visiting Pakistan this summer to carry the process forward.
