Parliament: Both Houses adjourned till noon

Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned till 12pm shortly after the winter session began on Thursday.

The Lok Sabha was adjourned over uproar concerning FDI in retail.

President Pranab Mukherjee´s son Abhijeet Mukherjee took oath as an MP in Lok Sabha before the adjournment.

The Prime Minister spoke in the Rajya Sabha and introduced the new ministers in his cabinet.

Earlier in the day, Singh said he was ready to discuss all issues and sough cooperation of the Opposition in tiding over economic hardship arising out of global situation.

Requesting cooperation from colleagues from both Houses the PM before entering the Parliament said: "We are ready to discuss all issues on the floor of both houses."

He reminded the MPs of the economic situation and the fallout of global financial turmoil.

"We need to create new jobs, provide healthy environment for investment. Our country faces many economic problems arising from global economic problems," he said.

"Our Parliament has a very heavy Legislative agenda during the Winter Session. I seek cooperation from my colleagues in the House," he said.

"We need to create new jobs on a large enough scale to provide gainful employment to our youth," he said.

"Our country faces many problems on the economic front arising out of the consequences of global economic slowdown. We need to increase investments in infrastructure sectors and social services like health and education to accelerate economic growth," he said.

The PM said his government is committed to these tasks "but success thereof requires cohesive collective action on the part of all segments of our polity."

"We all have an obligation, in opposition as well as in government, to work together to enable our parliamentary democracy," he said, inviting all political parties to join hands in this vital national endeavour.
