New Delhi: The CPI(M) seems to be feelingbitter about its allies like the BSP and the JD(S) switching sides tothe UPA after the Third Front's electoral debacle, with asenior party leader saying the post-poll developments haveproved that the "cut and paste" alliance was a mistake.

"You are right about the BSP, the JD(S) and the TRS and that isprecisely the point that I am making, our decision is that itwas neither credible nor viable and this (deserting thepre-poll alliance) only confirmed that," CPI(M) Politburomember Sitaram Yechury has said.

Yechury was responding to questions on Karan Thapar'sDevil's Advocate programme whether it was a mistake to allywith parties which were earlier with the BJP.  The BSP and the JD(S)are now supporting the Congress-led government while the TRS hascrossed over to the NDA.

"That is why in retrospect, we are saying that peopledid not find it (Third Front) credible," he said to a questionon whether they chose wrong allies like the BSP.

To a spate of questions on reported demands forGeneral Secretary Prakash Karat's resignation, he said theCentral Committee would be meeting in June to analyse thecauses for the debacle and noted that Karat's quitting wouldonly imply "escaping from responsibility".

Asked whether veteran Marxist Jyoti Basu had advisedagainst breaking ties with the UPA, Yechury said he might havehad his opinions which were raised in party committees, "butthere is no advice that has come to us."
