Kolkata, Jan 19 (IBNS) Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology Sachin Pilot inaugurated various projects for North Eastern states through video link from Kolakta on Thursday.
He laid foundation stone for BSNL's Administrative Building at Aizawl, Mizoram.
The six storey building of plinth area 1340.93 Sqm With an approximate cost of Rs.2.44 crores shall be constructed just opposite to Raj Bhawan in a time period of 2 years.
The building will accommodate the Administrative Officers, Customer Service Centre and other utility services.
He hoped that both individual and institutional subscribers, especially the state government will fully utilize the infrastructure and the Department is committed to deploying all possible resources to ensure connectivity to people of the North East.
While inaugurating WIMAX BTS at Cherrapunjee & Badapani in Meghalaya, he said that Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WIMAX) is a communication technology for wirelessly delivering high-speed Internet service to large geographical areas.
The WIMAX service which would be delivering at maximum speed of 5 Mbps, would cater to a distance of 15 Kms from the Tower. By using WIMAX the number of towers presently being used for mobile services could be reduced, as the reach of WIMAX is far superior to the reach of a conventional Mobile Tower.
He also inaugurated Computer Aided Design (CAD) & Training Centre for Weavers/Artisans of Gangtok & Aizawl. This is a project of Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Kolkata with the aim to create IT based Design Development and deployment for carpet, handloom and handicraft products.
Pilot also inaugurated National Informatics Centre's Co-operative Core Banking Solution (NIC-CCBS) Project for Sikkim.
He said, the main objective behind development of CCBS by NIC is to serve the poorest of the poor in our country by furthering banking facility in the rural areas of the country, which will play a vital role in financial inclusion, a primary agenda of Government of India.
The project is designed so as to enable the Agricultural Societies at the village level to disburse all the social sector related Government fund distribution (MNREGA, Mid-day Meal Scheme, Old Age Pension etc.) to the targeted beneficiaries at their doorsteps.
It would also facilitate easy monitoring of fund disbursement and day-to-day position of fund distribution.
"This service will be hosted in the https://www.ccbs.nic.in portal. This will improve transparency and efficiency of Government to citizen (G2C) services," Pilot said.
