Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has directed for timely implementation of ongoing projects in railways, roads, highways and shipping sectors.

Dr. Singh, who reviewed the performance of ongoing projects, set strict implementation time lines well before the 2013 Union Budget.

In the shipping sector, Dr. Singh has directed that a cabinet note be presented within 15 days on two projects for new major ports in Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal.

For the elevated rail corridor project in Mumbai, instructions have been given to ink the state support agreement with Maharashtra Government within the next 15 days. The ministry will finalize important milestones with timelines by December 31 and bids for the project will be invited before the Railway Budget in 2013.

The bids for the Madhepura and Marhowra Public Private Partnership Loco factories will also be called for by the end of this month and the project will be awarded before the Railway Budget. The IMG set up under the CCEA approval will consider and approve any necessary changes to documents. Timelines for the Marhowra Project will be announced by December 15.

It was also observed that the work on the dedicated freight rail corridor is progressing faster than earlier. The Ministry will try its best to award road projects as per the original targets for FY 12-13 and will certainly cross 8,000 kms of awards this year by March, 2013. Road projects of at least 3,000 kms length will be awarded under OMT by March, 2013.

However, a Cabinet note on two projects for new major Ports in Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal will be brought within a week. The projects will be awarded by March, 2013. (ANI)
