Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday hosted a dinner for Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav here.

According to reports, the dinner was also attended by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath and National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah.

Ahead of the winter session of the Parliament, the dinner meeting is considered to be a crucial move taken by the PM to reach out to the SP.

The winter session of Parliament will begin on Nov 22.

The government is likely to face tough moments during the winter session with former key alliance partner Trinamool Congress (TMC) likely to move a no-confidence motion against it.

The relationship between West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee´s TMC and the UPA touched its lowest point last month when it withdrew support to the latter over its recent economic reforms, including FDI in multi-brand retail, hike in diesel price and cap on subsidy in LPG cylinders.

TMC with 19 MPs was UPA´s second biggest constituent and the biggest ally of the Congress party which spearheads the government.

Pertinently, the UPA has bailed itself out with the support of Yadav´s SP that is in power in India´s largest state Uttar Pradesh.
