Lakhisarai: The three surviving policemen, who were held by Maoists for nine days, have been released, news reports say.

They were released at around 6:30 a.m., and arrived at Lakhisarai police station in a Tata Safari. They are being given medical treatment.

Media personnel said they were not allowed to speak to the rescued policemen.

Relatives of the abducted cops said they had sent out a search party of six to seven men headed by the brother of Abhay Yadav, one of the four cops captured by Maoists. The party returned after hearing rumours of the policemen's release, and headed to the police station.

On Friday, the body of one of the policemen, Lucas Tete, was recovered from a forested area.
