Ponty Chadha case: Police told to file charge sheet Saturday

New Delhi, Feb 15 (IANS) A court Friday expressed displeasure at the Delhi Police for not filing the charge sheet in the liquor baron Ponty Chadha and his brother Hardeep's shootout death case and told it to do so by Saturday.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mukesh Kumar directed the investigating officer (IO) Jitender Kumar to file the charge sheet in the case Saturday, as the mandatory 90-day-period to file the charge sheet will expire Feb 17.

Ponty Chadha and his brother were killed at a farmhouse in Chhattarpur in south Delhi in a shootout Nov 17, 2012 in alleged property dispute.

Police had earlier assured the court that it will file the charge sheet by Feb 15, but failed to do so. The investigating officer told the court that the Crime Branch, which was probing the case, had time till Feb 17 to file the charge sheet.

He assured the judge that the police will file the charge sheet Saturday.

The Crime Branch had arrested sacked Uttarakhand minorities panel chief S.S. Namdhari, his PSO Sachin Tyagi and eight others for their alleged role in the case.

As per the police, of the 10 accused, Namdhari is the only person to have been booked under section 302 IPC for murder.

Ponty Chadha's aides - Bhupender Singh, Uday Raj Singh, Rajpal Singh, Anand Singh Bisht, Mathura Singh Mehra and Satnam Singh are also accused in the case.

Namdhari's men - Simranjeet Singh and Jagbir Singh - have also booked by police for allegedly helping him in the commission of the crime.

All the 10 accused, including Namdhari, have been booked for allegedly committing offences of hatching criminal conspiracy, attempt to murder, dacoity, assault, destruction of evidence, trespass, illegal confinement and kidnapping under the IPC and also charged them under the Arms Act.
