New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Friday detained a key witness in liquor baron Ponty Chadha and his brother Hardeep shootout case, Sukhdev Singh Namdhari, from Uttarakhand.

The police detained the sacked chairman of the Uttarakhand Minorities Commission after questioning him at his farmhouse at Bazpur city in Uttarakhand.

The Delhi Police on Thursday night conducted raids on Namdhari's properties in Bazpur, reports said.

Meanwhile, a team of Delhi Police is bringing Namdhari to New Delhi.

Namdhari was reportedly been missing for the past few days and the police were trying to track him down as he was present at the spot when the shootout occurred last Saturday in south Delhi's Chattarpur area.

Namdhari was accompanying Ponty when he was allegedly shot by his brother.

"Mr Namdhari is suspected to have come to Delhi to help Mr Chadha evict Hardeep from the farmhouse the two brothers were fighting over," NDTV reported quoting police sources.

"The sources have pointed to inconsistencies in Mr Namdhari's police statement. While he had claimed that two shots were fired at him by Hardeep during the shootout, no bullets were found near his car seat," the report said.

Namdhari earlier recorded his statement with the Delhi Police.

Namdhari, who has 26 cases filed against him in Uttarakhand between 1993 and 2009, was removed from the minorities commission post by the state government this week following his involvement in the incident.

Ponty and his brother Hardeep were killed in a shootout between their groups inside their farmhouse at Chattarpur in south Delhi last Saturday.

Ponty's business empire is worth Rs 6000 crore.
