Pranab's son seeks Mamata's support

Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee's son Abhijit Mukherjee on Saturday appealed to all political parties including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to support his father in the upcoming Presidential poll.

Pranab has been selected by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) as its candidate for the upcoming Presidential election on July 19.

"Being a son I have appealed to all including Mamata Banerjee to support my father in the Presidential contest," Abhijit told IBNS.

"I have made the appeal through the press," he said.

Pertinently, Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata has opposed Pranab´s candidature.

Pranab on Saturday urged all the political groups who are still undecided about whom to support in the presidential poll to back his candidature.

In Kolkata, he urged all to support him once again.

"There are many parties outside UPA which are supporting me. Parties like Forward Bloc, CPI-M, JD (U) and Shiv Sena are supporting me," he said.

"I am urging those who have not made up their mind yet to support me as the UPA candidate," said Mukherjee.

Pranab, however, did not name TMC or Mamata, who are opposed to his candidature, this time.

The Presidential election is scheduled to take place on July 19.
