President has presented very optimistic picture of socio-economic reality: Congress

Applauding the President Pranab Mukherjee speech, while addressing the joint session of Parliament on the first day of the Budget Session on Thursday, the Congress party said the former has presented a very optimistic picture of socio-economic condition of the country at present.

"The president said that our youth are the greatest national asset and their aspirations are going to guide the government in the years to come. He promised that his government, means the UPA Government will create 10 crores new job opportunities during this year. He also explained the anxieties of the time like economic slow down, job security, employment prospects, security of the women and the children," said Congress spokesperson P. C. Chacko.

"The Government proposal to introduce Food Security Bill, which is going to be the most important legislation in this session, and some other important Bills including land acquisition Bill, legislations for various economic reform are going to set the tone of the session," he added.

He emphasised that due to the some national and international reasons, the growth rate has been affected, but the government is taking correctives to achieve the higher growth rate.

"The government is also concerned about the protection of the women and children, legislation will be brought to replace the ordinance the government had brought a few days before," said Chacko.

Earlier in the day, President Mukherjee, while addressing the joint session of Parliament for the first time, had said that an aspirational India is emerging that demands more opportunities, greater choices, better infrastructure, and enhanced safety and security. (ANI)
