A prominent Buddhist monk who was one of hundreds of political prisoners freed in Myanmar last month has been detained by authorities.

A Home Ministry official says Shin Gambira was taken from a Yangon monastery at 3 a.m. Friday for "questioning in relation to an incident that happened after his release."

Gambira is a charismatic monk who was among the leaders of the so-called Saffron Revolution, a 2007 anti-government uprising against the military junta.

Since his release from prison, he has publicly spoken out against the new government, which took office last March.

His detention comes amid widespread international attention on Myanmar, where the nominally civilian government has evoked cautious praise for a multitude of reforms.
