Defence Minister A.K. Antony on Friday talked tough, and said that promises made by Pakistan must be translated into sincere action.

"At the moment, tension in the LoC is much reduced. Again I told yesterday that even though the tensions have reduced, we cannot relax. We have to be on vigil 24x7 because lot of promises were made. Promises are not enough, we want to see that how these promises are translated into sincere action," Antony told media here.

"For that, we have to wait and watch. Before that our considered view is we have to wait and watch, we should not take any serious steps unless we are convinced that these promises are actually translated into action," he added.

The Defence Minister had earlier on Thursday rejected Pakistan's claims that Indian troops had beheaded several of its soldiers in the past, and dubbed the allegations as 'totally baseless'.

Antony yesterday said that India could not afford to be slack in protecting the border it shares with Pakistan

"The series of reports coming about Kargil also shows that even though at the moment, after the second round of talks at the DGMO (Director General of Military Operations) level, the situation at LoC (Line of Control), (where) tension has reduced, we cannot lower our guard. We have to be vigilant 24x7. That is why we are taking all precautions to face any eventuality," he told the media after inaugurating a seminar on naval armament. (ANI)
