New Delhi, Dec 15 (IBNS) The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) will lodge a strong protest against Dow's association with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) but will not boycott the 2012 London Olympics.
India have been protesting against Dow´s involvement as the Olympic sponsor. Dow is linked to Union Carbide which is blamed for the 1984 Bhopal Gas tragedy.
In its executive body meeting here on Thursday it was decided that IOA will send a strong letter to the IOC over Dow´s role as a major sponsor in the Olympics.
The general body of the IOA that meets here Friday will now take a final call on the issue.
"We will write a strong letter to IOC about the Dow Chemicals association with the Olympic Games to convey the strong sentiments of the Indians in this regard," a top IOA official said after the meeting.
The sports ministry in a letter on Wednesday had asked the IOA to convey India´s resentment to the IOC over Dow´s subsidiary Union Carbide, which was blamed for the gas tragedy.
