The mother of a slain 7-year-old girl says she is overwhelmed by the hundreds of people who have turned out for the burial of her daughter in the girl's hometown in southern Puerto Rico.
Joselinne Rivera tells The Associated Press she appreciates her community's support following the death of her daughter Jorelys.
She spoke Tuesday just before a procession to the burial plot in the town of Penuelas, where Jorelys was born. The girl is being buried in a white dress, with white flowers in her hair, alongside some favorite toys.
Jorelys was abducted Dec. 2 after leaving the playground near her home in Canton, Georgia. Police have arrested a 20-year-old maintenance worker in the killing.
