Murdered Punjab cop Ravinder Pal Singh's son Navpreet said he fears for his family's life as he felt the accused, former Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Ranjit Singh Rana, is a 'dangerous' man.

"We are still scared. We have been told the accused is very dangerous. The government has provided us security, but I am still worried because my mother and sister live here," Navpreet told NDTV.

Navpreet, who lives in Australia, came to Amritsar to perform the last rites of his father.

The Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) was cremated in his native village Rampura in Amritsar district on Friday.

The Punjab Police on Thursday arrested the former SAD general secretary from Amritsar (West) for allegedly gunning down Singh as he protested against the politician and others for harassing his daughter.

The police arrested the leader and a co-accused Gurveer Singh from Tarn Taran district of Punjab.

The police recovered three weapons from them.

"We arrested Ranjit Singh Rana and one more person in wee hours of the day. Three weapons including 12 bore gun, .315 bore rifles and a pistol were recovered from his possession," Amritsar´s Police Commissioner Ram Singh said on Thursday.

The police said two other accused in the case are absconding.

Rana on Wednesday allegedly gunned down Singh at Chehertha area in Amritsar after the ASI asked him to stop harassing his daughter, reports said.

Singh´s daughter earlier told him that Rana and his associates used to harass her.

The ASI was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.

Meanwhile, the Shiromani Akali Dal expelled Rana.
