Rain in Punjab and Haryana, rise in temperature

Chandigarh, Feb 13 (IANS) Night temperatures across Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh ranged above normal Monday with some parts of Punjab receiving rainfall during the previous 24 hours, the Met department here said.

After a three degree-dip Sunday morning, the minimum temperature in Chandigarh rose to 12 degrees Celsius Monday -- four degrees above normal, an official at the Met office said.

Amritsar, the coldest city in Punjab, was five degrees above normal at 10.6 degrees Monday morning. The Sikh holy city also received 4.6 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours.

In Haryana, too, the temperatures increased several degrees above normal with Ambala registering 14 degrees Celsius -- six degrees above normal -- Monday morning. However, Narnaul, at 4 degrees, recorded a minimum temperature four degrees below the average.

The Met department has forecast isolated hailstorms in some parts of Punjab and rainfall activity in Haryana in the next 48 hours.
