Mumbai: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Tuesday appeared to rule out the possibility of forging an alliance with the Shiv Sena, quashing speculation about partnerships for the 2014 national elections.

“I do not wish for an alliance with anyone," Raj Thackeray was quoted as saying at a rally in Kolhapur.

The statement came following reports that quoted an interview of Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray to party mouthpiece Saamna, where he hinted that MNS and the Shiv Sena may come together.

"This is a question that the two of us (Raj and I) have to sit together and discuss. The two us have to decide the answer together," CNN IBN had quoted Uddhav as saying.

A merger made sense for the Thackeray cousins to avoid the splitting of Marathi votes.

Raj had split from the Shiv Sena to form the MNS in 2006.
