New Delhi: Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh has refuted former finance minister Yashwant Sinha's allegation that BJP-ruled states were facing discrimination in central schemes related to his ministry.
Ramesh said he was "shocked and taken aback" by the remarks.
In a letter to Sinha, the minister said the allegation concerning discrimination in the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) were "totally unfounded".
The minister said that over last year, he had worked hard to solve problems concerning PMGSY in Bihar and Jharkhand.
The minister also spelt out the amount sanctioned for PMGSY in BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Gujarat and Karnataka.
Sinha had said after a meeting of chief ministers and deputy chief ministers of BJP-ruled states last week that many of them had complained of discrimination in release of funds for central schemes such as PMGSY and JNNURM.
