Random house stay

I was hoping to stay in an environmentally friendly house boat in Alleppy and this was supposed to have been organized way ahead in advance. Alleppy has some breathtaking views and fantastic house boats.

But, for some reason, it was not organized. I reached Alleppy late in the night - at around 10:00 pm. I cycled in - confused about where I was going to stay. I cycled through narrow lanes hoping to find some accommodation. It was dark and my small little light, which was powered by batteries were slowly dying out. I pedaled along desperately trying to find somewhere to stay.

After a while, my light went out of power and it was already pitch dark. It was 11:15 and I still had no clue about where I was going to stay. Thankfully, at a distance, i felt like there was someone moving. In desperate hope, I pedaled faster to find if it was someone along the road. I saw one man wearing a lungi and a shirt, walking with a small girl next to him. As I cycled closer to him, he looked at me, smiled and said hello, how are you? Where are you cycling in the night? I stopped my bike and explained my mission to him. He said his name was jacob and he worked with the government, The girl walking next to him was his daughter and they were walking to his relatives house which was closeby Mr.Jacob had a very warm smile and he seemed like a gentleman. My instinct said that I should ask him if I could find somewhere to stay. And I did.

He thought for a second and said, "I know someone who will rent out their house as a stay for a night, Have a look and if you like it, you can take it". After walking for a few meters, he walked into a house, rang the bell and waited for some response.

As the crickets sang, a man wearing a brown cloured, flowered lungi walked out. Mr.Jacob had explained to him that I was looking for a place to stay. The man looked at me and said - you seem tired - 150 rupees per night - is that alright? I said yes. He took me to a place and I saw it. It was quiet, clean and small with a small lounge and a single bed with a clean bathroom. I saw the place, liked the surroundings. It felt a lot safer and so I decided to stay the night.

As I was settling in Mr.Jacob said, 'I like what you are doing. Incredible'. His little daughter started a lot of questions and asked me loads of questions about my trip - my mission, about what I do and so on and so forth, She told me she wanted to be a aeronautical engineer.

As I settled in, all of them bid good bye to me and left the place. I took a quick shower and called it a night.
