Kolkata, Nov 23 (IBNS) The Bengal versus Saurashtra Ranji Trophy match seemed to head for a dramatic end as the hosts were 194/8 in the second knock and overall leading by 272 runs at end of the 3rd day of the 4-day play at Eden Gardens here on Saturday.
After 303 runs in the first innings with major contribution from captain Laxmi Ratan Shukla (155), Bengal restricted the visitors to 225 despite Cheteshwar Puaja´s heroic 102, the hosts hoped to extend their 78 runs lead further in the second knock.
But Abhishekh Bhatt and Chirag Jani with their disciplined pace attacks shattered Bengal´s dream to post huge score and forced them to 194/8 at the end Day 3.
Sourav Sarkar was 13 and A Dinda was yet to open score when the stumps were drawn for the day.
Wicketkeeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha and all rounder Anusthup Majumdar, however, resisted the slide scoring 52 and 69 runs respectively as the remaining batting order for the host came under lethal spells from pacers Abhishekh Bhatt and Chirag Jani. While Bhatt´s 4-77 was his career best, Jani, who took three wickets in first innings, took 3 for 57.
