Lucknow: Two women constables have been suspended after police officers in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr district on Monday locked up a 10-year-old rape survivor, reports said in Tuesday.
Two Sub-Inspectors have been sent to police lines after the incident.
On Sunday night, the mother of the victim filed a complaint at a women's police station in Uttar Pradesh that a 24-year-old local villager had sexually assaulted her child.
A police case was registered and the child and mother were sent to local hospital for medical tests.
On Monday, when the mother came back to the police station, the women officers there allegedly forced the mother to leave and locked up the young girl in a holding bay.
The case came to light after a local television reporter reached the station upon hearing the incident and managed to capture footage of the appalling act of insensitivity.
Later, even when they were shown footage of the incident, senior district police officers blatantly denied the charge.
The girl was rescued after locals protested against the incident, reports said.
Father of 3 arrested for raping 10-yr-old girl
Police today arrested a father of three for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl, who was put behind bars by women cops after she approached them to file a complaint.
Harinder (35) was arrested by the police on rape charges from Bulandshahr Roadways depot today morning when he was trying to flee the city.
The minor from Meerpur village here was found lying unconscious in a field by her parents Sunday night where she had been dumped after being raped, police said.
An FIR was lodged with the police by victims' parents but shockingly the staff of the women's police station detained the victim in lock-up where she spent several hours and was rescued only after locals protested over the matter.
Two women constables have been suspended while two sub-Inspectors including the station-in-charge had been sent to police lines following the incident, SSP Gulab Singh said.
The father of the victim, Shyamlal, later alleged that he and his family were warned of dire consequences if they spoke anything against the police to the media .
