Bangalore: In an apparent dig at Governor H R Bhardwaj who had expressed disappointment over relief works, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Saturday asserted that government had taken up relief and rehabilitation in flood-devastated areas on a "war footing".
Government has so far spent Rs 1,132 crore out of Rs 1,579 crore released, he told reporters here, two days after Bhardwaj rapped the government, saying "nothing has been done" by it though Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had announced an aid of Rs 1,000 crore.
"You should know that I am disappointed that the community has not been helped", Bhardwaj, a former Union law minister before occupying the gubernatorial post in the BJP-ruled state, had said.
Yeddyurappa said "the task of providing relief to the affected people who bore the brunt of the century's worst ever deluge is not a simple one".
"The Governor might have made such a comment on the basis of lack of information. I myself will meet him to provide details or depute the chief secretary to furnish a report on the relief works", he said.
The Centre has so far provided an assistance of Rs 839 crore for flood and drought relief as against the loss of Rs 18,568 crore projected by the state, he said.
Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and Union Law Minister M Veerappa Moily themselves have appreciated the relief workscarried out by the state, Yeddyurappa said.
