Former Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting announced his retirement from international cricket on Thursday, reports said.
Australia´s third Test against South Africa that starts on Friday, will be his last. However, he will continue to play domestic cricket.
Stating that his level of performance hadn´t been good in the recent past, he said, "My passion and love for the game hasn´t changed but at the end of the day (the decision) was based on my results."
After the Perth test, Ponting will equal Steve Waugh's record of 168 Tests, the highest by an Australian.
He has scored 13,366 Test runs including 41 centuries, 52 50s and averaged 52.
He has played 375 one-day matches, scoring 13,704 runs with 30 centuries and 82 50s with a highest score of 164 and an average of 42.
