Moscow, May 23 (IANS) Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said the structure of country' new government has remained virtually unchanged to keep up the pace, otherwise the Cabinet of Ministers would have needed a long time to get down to business, RIA Novosti reported.

"Any, even the most perfect structure that involves changes, needs a year to become functional, the Russian prime minister said Tuesday.

"No government has that year - we have to keep on ticking, deal with current tasks and implement reforms that are overdue in the economic and social spheres, he added.

On May 8, Russia's new President Vladimir Putin in a decree appointed Medvedev as the country's new prime minister, within an hour of Russia's State Duma, or lower house of parliament approving his nomination.

lawmakers voted 299-144 for Medvedev's appointment. He was backed by two of the four Duma factions, the United Russia and the liberal Democratic Party of Russia.
