Lucknow: With deputy Chief Medical Officer Y S Sachan's death wrapped in mystery, Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh was caught in an awkward situation on Thursday when he referred to it as "murder" after maintaining that prima facie the incident was a suicide case.

"A judicial inquiry is being conducted in this murder (Sachan) and there is no need of CBI inquiry into it," Singh said replying to a question regarding CBI inquiry into CMO B P Singh murder case.

However, the state's top bureaucrat quickly corrected himself when the apparent slip of tongue was pointed out by some journalists.

Opposition parties and Sachan's family members have cried foul alleging that the death was a case of murder and demanded a CBI inquiry while the state government has termed it as prima facie a case of suicide.
