Sachin misses century, fans shocked

It was so near, yet so far for Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar as he was dismissed at 94 runs by West Indies during the first innings of the third Test match between Indian and the West Indies at the Wankhede stadium on Friday, missing his 100th ton once again.

Sachin fans will now have to wait a bit more for their favourite batsman to complete his hundredth international century.

The stage was set on Friday morning as Sachin commenced his innings from the overnight score of 67 runs at his home ground in Mumbai.

The maestro was hitting the ball cleanly and his fans were sure that the day has finally arrived for him to create another record.

Anticipations went high as Sachin Tendulkar reached the 90 runs mark. But it was Ravi Rampaul who put an end to all the hopes as he dismissed Sachin at 94 runs, six short of touching the magical figure.

He was caught by D Sammy on a R Rampaul delivery.

The batting maestro thus on Friday failed to hit his 52nd Test century at his home ground. Tendulkar has 48 centuries in One-day internationals.

"I am disappointed that he missed it today. But I am sure he will score it during India's tour to Australia," young IT professional Tanmoy Ghosh of Patna reacted.

"I hoped that the way he was batting today, he will definitely score a century, but his luck did not favour him again. I will like to wish him better luckl in the next match," said Saptarshi Mukherjee of New Delhi.

"You will not believe but since Friday morning I was praying for Sachin Tendulkar. But he missed it again. I am feeling very sad," said Nandita Sen, a house-wife from Kolkata.

" He played like a champion today. He may miss the century but he was fluent with his batting today," a teacher named Animesh Pradhan of Mumbai said.

Meanwhile, India were all out at 482 runs in the first innings.

R Ashwin scored his maiden Test century on Friday. He scored 103 runs.

West Indies scored 590 runs in the first innings. They took a lead of 108 runs in the first innings on Friday.

India lead the three match Test series by 2-0 margin
