Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan has landed himself in a royal mess and could face an arrest after serious allegations of assault on a South African businessman and his father-in-law in a chic restaurant in Mumbai on Tuesday night were lodged against him.
Saif, who is likely to visit the police station after the summons, remained untraceable to media since the incident.
Iqbal Sharma, who is a South African businessman, said he was assaulted and got a broken nose while his 68-year-old father-in-law was not spared as well as the actor rained blows on them and hurled abuses.
The case was registered against Khan in the Colaba police station under section 325 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for allegedly punching Iqbal Sharma and his father-in-law at Wasabi restaurant in Mumbai´s Taj Hotel on Tuesday night.
The Mumbai Police are likely to question Khan and record his girlfriend Kareena Kapoor´s statement on the issue. Kareena was also present at the scene of the brawl, reports said, but the assaulted businessman (apparently not too aware about Bollywood actors) said he could not recognize the ladies and could identify only if they were produced before him.
The cops are also trying to ´track down´ the actor amid reports that he would turn up at the Colaba police station.
Khan, along with Kareena and few other friends, were dining at the restaurant when he had a brawl with Iqbal Sharma.
Sharma was sitting at the adjoining table where Khan was dining.
Sharma reportedly went to Khan and asked him to lower his voice as the noise from his table was disturbing him.
He said when Saif did not stop they were moving to a different place and as they crossed each other at a passage Saif hurled abuses and started beating him up.
"Saif had gone out and was coming back when we crossed each other at the passage and he started beating and abusing then," said Sharma and his father-in-law.
Saif allegedly told the family that they "do not know who he is."
"He is not a sobre person at all," said Iqbal Sharma. He said four men were in the group.
The 68-year-old man said he had recently underwent bypass surgery and had lung problem and he fell down.
"We do not expect these kind of behaviour from celebrities and that too in a five star restaurant. They were very, very rowdy," said the father-in-law.
"We will fight both civil and criminal cases against him," Iqbal Sharma said.
Saif and Kareena, who have announced that they would get married eventually, star together in the upcoming release Agent Vinod.
Saif, son of late cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and actor Sharmila Tagore, became the new Nawab (a princely title) of Pataudi (a town near Gurgaon which was once a princely estate) after his father´s death last year.
