Indian External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid is all set to visit Myanmar as his first bilateral trip abroad from Dec 14 to 16.
During his visit to Myanmar he will have discussions with his Myanmar counterpart U Wunna Maung Lwin. He will also call on the President of Myanmar, President Thein Sein.
Sein is also likely to visit New Delhi for the ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit on the of Dec 20. The External Affairs Minister's visit is a precursor to those discussions.
In addition, External Affairs Minister will also visit Yangon where he is scheduled to inaugurate the International Buddhist Conference.
Earlier, when Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visited Myanmar he had indicated that India would present a Sarnath Buddha statue.
That statue has now been sent to Myanmar and it would be formally inaugurated at the Shwedagon Pagoda on Dec 16.
Khurshid´s visit will also include a trip to the Anandi Temple which is being restored with the assistance of the Archaeological Survey of India.
India spokesperson said, "The visit of the External Affairs Minister to our neighbouring country re-emphasizes the importance our place on relations with our neighbours, also that it is located as part of our Look East Policy indicates the importance that we are providing to our Look East Policy."
